I work to provide a safe space, full of grace and compassion, as you navigate your thoughts and feelings. Do you ever wonder why life is filled with so many heartaches, disappointments, and struggles? Are you fighting to understand yourself and your family? Have you tried to make sense of your feelings and ever wonder why you are stuck in the same unhealthy cycle? I am called to strengthen families and help others find freedom, healing, and wholeness while promoting resilience. Likewise, walking with you and witnessing your growth is a true honor. Understanding the complexities of human nature begins with the assumption that people are multifaceted. This is also why I strive to understand individuals through a biological-psychological-social-spiritual lens. My deep interest in people, problems, and processes has allowed me to develop the ability to see the complex patterns and interrelatedness of understanding individuals within their respective contexts.

Dr. Jessica Pae is a licensed Psychologist and received her doctorate and masters in Clinical Psychology at Wheaton College.

Here I was trained in family health and the integration of psychology and theology. Furthermore, I received my bachelors at the University of Denver. Over time, I have then built a repertoire of skills instrumental in providing excellent treatment in outpatient/inpatient hospital settings, primary care clinics, schools, and residential treatment centers. I have extensive experience conducting evidence based treatment with children and families challenged by a wide spectrum of psychological disorders, in both individual and group settings.

Mental health awareness and prevention, parenting, healthy families, diagnosis, and psychopathology are things I love teaching people. In both urban and suburban settings, I have worked with patients from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic, and religious populations. My wide research experiences include adoption, adolescent spiritual development, suicide prevention, and the ripple effects of mass shootings. This of course has helped inform the psychological community about different aspects of family health. I also have a deep a passion for making psychology relevant and practical to the public and am available for speaking/ teaching engagements.

By tailoring evidence based strategies, I will then strive to take a holistic approach in helping you achieve your own well-being. I engage people from various subcultures as part of my training, professional and personal life, as I have found that individuals are inseparable from their cultural and social identities. Of course, I passionately advocate for my patients and have a flexible interpersonal style and can be both directive and gracious. I of course will take an empathic, caring, and compassionate stance in my therapeutic work while challenging you to own your therapeutic process. I desire to provide an emotionally safe atmosphere for others where they can explore painful struggles and at the same time to offer humor and joy for life that inspires optimism and hope.

Figuring out the right thing to do can be a daunting task. Even with the multitude of resources available to us today, you might still be feeling stuck, helpless, or overwhelmed about the situation you’re in. Everything you’ve tried doesn’t seem to be working and you’ve come to the point of feeling weary and burdened; you don’t know how much longer you can keep this up.

Therapy is a time for children and their families to experience and relate to each other in different ways. It is a time for families to work together as a team; being for each other rather than against. It is a time for families to effectively communicate with respect for one another; to hear and to be heard. It is a time for families to recognize each other for who they are and not what they do.

In working with children and their families, the one shared characteristic I have seen in all of them is that they are all trying to do the right thing. As a family therapist, the work that we do together will be collaborative and creative. As a parent, you are the expert on your child, even if it doesn’t feel that way. Your gut will always be greater than my guidance. We’ll figure out what works, what doesn’t, and how to most effectively use our time.

At the end of it all – yes, there is an end – I hope that you and your family will have found some healing, freedom, and rest from trying to do the right thing, and instead know that you are all doing the best you can. This process is an invitation to restore relationships and find rest through a new way of life.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, licensed in both Colorado and Texas. I approach counseling through the lens of attachment, narrative work, and family systems. I believe that our adult relationships are a result of patterns and experiences our minds and bodies witnessed as children. Our brave work is to look at those patterns and decide what needs deconstructing and what we want to keep, but potentially remodel.

I work with people who are wanting to improve their relationships, needing to process a recent loss, and those who have resiliently carried losses and pain with them for some time. With a compassionate posture, you and I will create a safe space to tend to existing wounds. I believe our stories and life experiences play a large role in shaping who we are and why we do what we do. However, the meaning we make out of these stories has far more power over us than the events themselves. Understanding where the interpretations of our stories come from is key to walking into further freedom from our undesired ties and to forming healthier tethers. I believe that psychotherapy is a practice that when done in a safe context with a trusted therapist, can lead to powerful transformation.

Education: Bachelors at University of North Texas and Masters at Dallas Theological Seminary

The human experience is incredibly complex – we often face struggles, triumphs, confusion, certainty, connection, and loneliness in equal measure. Psychological testing is a valid, reliable, and powerful way to understand each of us, as unique individuals.  As the psychological testing intern with Restoration Counseling, I work closely with Dr. Pae to provide full-spectrum assessment services with compassion, kindness, and a focus on strengths and resilience to individuals of all ages. Through a holistic approach to testing that covers intellectual, emotional, behavioral, physical health, neuropsychological, academic, and personality functioning, our comprehensive evaluations provide an in-depth snapshot into each person’s unique functioning. In this process we can assess for ADHD, learning disabilities, cognitive processing differences, personality functioning, and other specific emotional and behavioral health concerns. This can result in diagnostic clarity, more accurately informed treatment plans, and IEP or accommodations recommendations.

Loss, pain, conflict, and transition impact everyone’s experience of being human. While we deeply desire for the understanding presence of others to guide us in these moments, we often feel like we don’t have the support we need. Our complex and unresolved experiences can make our days feel exhausting, disrupt the way we want to care for our bodies, and keep us feeling lonely even in our closest relationships. We are all worthy of being safe, known, comforted, supported, and cherished — and sometimes we need a trained companion to help us access and learn to ask for these basic needs to be met in our lives.

As a counseling intern in couple and family therapy and clinical mental health, I specialize in helping individuals and couples to make sense of their unique stories, identify their distressing patterns, and grow into more satisfying relationships. My work with clients is grounded in attachment science, which focuses on the core organizing factors that shape how we understand ourselves and others. I use non-pathologizing experiential and relational techniques to help clients experience new ways of connecting with themselves and others. My areas of emphasis include anxiety, depression, forgiveness and reconciliation, grief, infidelity, life transitions, prenatal and postpartum issues, relationship issues, self-esteem, spirituality, stress, and trauma. As an intern, I only offer reduced-fee counseling. I am currently a Masters student in Clinical Mental Health at Denver Seminary and plan to graduate in May of 2024. Growing up as a teen in today's culture can be challenging with bouts of uncertainty and an immense desire for a formation of one's true identity. As the group counseling intern with Restoration Counseling, I work under the supervision of Dr. Jessica Pae to serve our youth by running a Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) Skills group. Our group sessions are designed to foster a safe and open environment where each participant can explore and strengthen their abilities in DBT. My goal as an intern is not only to facilitate these sessions but also to actively contribute and learn from each participant, assisting them as they create a foundation for long-lasting personal growth.
